Baptisms

Baptism (Christening) is a special service where we welcome someone into the church family.

Both adults and children can be baptised. Adults will make their own promises to God, parents of children who are not old enough to make those promises make the promises on their child's behalf.

We have an open baptism policy at St John’s Church - if you do not live in the area you may be baptised here under certain circumstances.  If you are interested in being baptised yourself or would like to have your child baptised, please contact the parish office by sending an e-mail to office@stjohns-hedgeend.org.uk, phoning 01489 790048 or using our online contact form.

For additional information, you may also like to visit the following pages on the Church of England website about adult baptism and christenings.

In this short film from a few years ago, the Archbishop of Canterbury talks about the baptism of HRH Prince George of Cambridge, as well as the broader significance of baptism.
